REVIEW - PATH OF DAGGERS

The books in the Wheel of Time Series

Books 1-8 in order

DotThe Eye of the World
DotThe Great Hunt
DotThe Dragon Reborn
DotThe Shadow Rising
DotThe Fires of Heaven
DotLord of Chaos
DotA Crown of Swords
DotThe Path of Daggers

Firstly I should say I am a real Wheel of Time fan.  When I began reading the series, there were four books already published and I rabidly read through them, one after the other, rapt with the sheer brilliance and adventure contained within.  Since then I have eagerly awaited the arrival of each new novel.  Jordan and Feist led me down this particular genre and quite frankly I find most other types of storytelling to now be very unfulfilling.

Anyway, I ramble on...but would just like to say this genre is now favoured by so many brilliant authors that I am forever finding more and more outstanding books to read.

Back to Book Eight of The Wheel of Time.  It pains me to report that Jordan has hit the doldrums with this latest installment.  In particular, the first two hundred pages were extremely tedious.   It did get better from then on but never really had me in the "I can't put this down" mode like the first seven (and in particular the first four) books did.   The fact that there may be over a year between books also makes it difficult to pick up the threads due to the awesome scope of this long running epic.  That and the fact that in between each installment of the Wheel of Time, I read many other books of the same genre which makes remembering the characters and events from the last novel to the latest novel extremely difficult.

Really, it had so little impact on me that I couldn't remember finishing it.  It turns out that I did, and it wasn't that long ago.  Anyway, like most fans who have read this far you wouldn't dream of not reading on.

All I can hope for is that book nine regains some of the sheer magic that Jordan captured when he started!

SYNOPSIS - THE PATH OF DAGGERS

I've decided it would be futile to write a synopsis for this particular book.  Any new readers would be well advised to start with the first book (The Eye of the World) and veterans of The Wheel of Time Series probably don't care what it's about or already know what it's about and either way they are going to read it (if they haven't already done so!)
