MARIO KART 64 - REVIEW
I must say I was very underwhelmed and on the whole found it boring and too easy (especially in one player mode.) I know that this game was very well received by N64 fans but it really did nothing for me. Luckily due to it's popularity I had no problem selling it at a good price!.
Speed, speed and more speed. The fluency of this game at the speed it runs is awesome as are the graphics. The landscapes are weird, bright and alien. It really is a visual feast. Unfortunately the speed means you get little "feel" for the cyberbikes and except for one course you just bounce off boundaries and keep going. The racing is done mostly alone with no real duels. You pass them or they pass you in an instant. It is designed to be different as you get all sorts of weird weapon "pick ups" as you "fly" along the courses. Thus you are not only racing but blasting, dropping mines and even sending opponents through time reversing warps. The way the game saves and the mixed up way you progress through the game "worlds" can get confusing.
STAR WARS - SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE - REVIEW I won't say much about this game except don't bother! I bought this game cheap, second hand ($25.00AUS) and think if I had paid full price when it was first released ($128.00AUS) sharp objects would have had to be kept away from me.
This will be really brief. I hated this game! The sound was ordinary, the pop-up unbelievably bad and the handling of the cars the pits. I hired this game and persevered for quite a few hours. After being used to the quality of Top Gear Rally, F-1 World Grand Prix, Wave Race etc., this game, lifted from the Playstation should be left where it belongs...on the shelf!
The controls felt really weird initially but improved markedly as you upgraded characteristics and earned enough money to buy better cars. The scenery is bright and interactive with lots of hidden routes, power-ups etc. After Top Gear Rally I was a little disappointed, hoping more from their latest effort. This game is designed to use the new 4MB ram expansion pak which was not available when I hired this game. Like Top Gear Rally you progress through seasons obtaining better cars and more tracks.
It is a visual feast with close game play. It takes quite a while to master the ski's and get used to going to the left and right of the marker buoys correctly. After success in the normal round you get more courses with more obstacles in the hard and expert rounds.
