It's 23rd Century New York
(where else) and a battle is about to take place between good (the fifth element) and evil
(a dark power wanting to extinguish the universe.) Evil gets its chance once every five
thousand years when doorways open between parallel dimensions...and that time is at hand!
In traditional hollywood style a hero is needed and this time he comes in the form of cab
driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) who befriends Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) a beautiful
alien creature around whom the plot of this story is weaved. Gary Oldman who has gained a
reputation for playing the bad guy, once again does it brilliantly and Chris Tucker takes
on the job of portraying a completely over the top media personality named Ruby Rhod. This movie is full of eye candy. The wonderful costumes were designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier and there are more than enough special effects, ugly aliens and quirky humour to keep you glued to the screen. I loved this movie. Bruce Willis (with that quirky little grin that follows him through all his movies) is well suited to the role of Korben Dallas. Milla Jovovich with her "to die for body" will no doubt keep all the guys enthralled and both Oldman and Tucker give outstanding performances that will leave you giggling and wanting more. Listen for the Diva's Aria...it'll send shivers down your spine... As I seem to find with most of the movies that make it into my "favourites list" this is one of those movies that seems to get better every time you watch it.
