NO ORDINARY DOG

|
"No Ordinary
Dog"
Picture from Front Jacket of Book
"Ten year old Steven suffers from shyness after
moving to a new town. The only thing that gives him happiness and confidence is
raising a guide dog. But will he be able to give her up for a better cause?"

I
read about the book "No Ordinary Dog" at the website below and thought it
sounded wonderful. I searched all the libraries and finally found one that was able
to get a copy of this book. Each night my eight year old daughter Jade reads a
few pages of the book whilst my husband and I sit engrossed. It's a wonderful,
beautifully written story and even though we are only half way through the book at
present, I can highly recommend it.
7th March, 1999 - Well, we have finished the book and all I
can say is try and get a copy of it. This book is not just for dog lovers, I think
most people will enjoy reading it, especially with their children. Jade cried near
the end of the book and said "it was so sad, but then you feel happy."
I won't go any further...read the book and see for yourself.
Points
of Interest
- Mary Wilson has "self published" this book.
This means that she didn't go to a publisher but instead put the book together
herself! Let's hope she writes a lot more books!
- The copy that we got from the Library was personally signed by
Mary!
Mary Wilson's first
novel, No Ordinary Dog tells the story of ten year old Steven. Steven and his family
have moved to a new home and he now finds himself at a new school without any
friends.
On a school outing
to Dogs for People, a place that breeds and trains guide dogs, Steven meets Bee
Jay and realises that he really wants this dog. Bee Jay is a guide dog in training
and if Steven does get her he also knows that one day he will have to give her back.
This book tells the beautiful, heart warming story of Steven and Bee Jay and how they
change each others lives forever.

FIVE TRUE DOG STORIES
What
is it about?
As the title says, this book contains five true stories about
remarkable dogs. The five dogs are -
Dox - The greatest dog detective in the world
Grip - The dog who was a thief
Wolf - the dog who saved other dogs
Barry - The dog who saved people
Balto - The dog who saved Nome
Review
I would recommend this book for children aged 6-8 and above
to read by themselves. Children under 6 years of age would probably enjoy having
this book read to them.
My 8 year old daughter read this book and thoroughly
recommends it, especially for true dog lovers. She said that what she found so
interesting was the fact that all the stories were true.

PUPPY SCHOOL
What is it about?
Dogs! Big or small, pedigree or mutt,
Neil and Emily Parker love them all. And there are dogs of every kind at their home,
busy King Street Kennels.
Neil and Emily can't believe it. Dotty the
Dalmatian, Compton's naughtiest canine resident, is expecting puppies - and she's still as
mischievous as ever.
But the pups are bad news for her owner, Neil's
teacher Mr. Hamley. Dotty can't be left at home alone in her condition - so she has
to go to school! And Neil has to keep her out of trouble...
Review
Puppy School is a part of the Puppy Patrol
series. There are 16 books in the series, so if you enjoy one of them you have a
whole heap of others to look forward to!
Jade hasn't read this book yet, but when she
does I'll write a review of it.
