| Yes, there really is a game! | |

Living in Australia has its drawbacks (though
they are very few.) We often find it very hard to purchase things that other countries
seem to trip over. The Companions of Xanth Game definitely falls somewhere in this
category. I think, when the game was first released, it was readily available everywhere
(that is everywhere except Perth, Western Australia!) Now, however, although the game is a
lot harder to find I've heard stories of people walking into shops and finding the game
bundled with a range of other games and selling for a very low price...(once again,
Western Australia is not among those places...) Because I haven't played it myself I can hardly give an honest review, so instead I'll just tell you what the game is about and steer you towards a site where the game is reviewed in detail. |

Companions of Xanth is based on the novel
"Demons Don't Dream. In the book, two people from the mundane world are drawn into
Xanth through a computer game. The two demons who control Xanth, E(A/R)th and X(A/N)th,
are actually using the two humans in a personal wager and the magical existance of Xanth
itself is at stake. In the game you play the role of the human male, Dug. It's been a few years since the game was first released and during that time the computer gaming industry has jumped forwards in leaps and bounds. With games such as Myst and the ever popular Quake and Duke Nukem to compete against I doubt that the game would appeal to a wide audience. However, for those people who live and breathe all things Xanth, well I don't have to tell you that you will no doubt want to get your hands on it...I know I do! |
