MoonFor one thousand of the planet's years, the spaceship had hovered silently above it, unnoticed. The crew of the ship had studied the inhabitants, watched the changes that had occurred and had indirectly intervened when necessary.

Alien World by Lynn McCorrySaran stepped through the teleporter on his home world of 'Heaavan' and, almost immediately, emerged on the spaceship 'Messia', docked in space millions of light years away. He knocked and then entered his Commander's quarters. Sira looked up and smiled. "Come Saran, sit," she motioned towards a chair.

They exchanged pleasantries and then Sira's tone became serious. "Have you been briefed on your assignment yet?" she asked.

Saran shook his head. "Not entirely. I know the planet closely resembles our own world, and apart from minor physical differences, the inhabitants are very much like our own ancestors of millenniums ago."

Sira nodded. "Yes, and we do believe they have the potential to evolve like us. Their genetic structure shows that at least half of them possess the dormant gene of telepathy. In time they could learn how to untap their telepathic abilities, the byproduct of which, as we know, is the mutant gene of immortality.

Frozen Flames by Slawek Wojtowicz"However, from our studies it appears that they are a fragmented species. If left alone they will continue to diversify and the unification necessary to evolve to our stage will be lost.

"They need a nucleus to build upon and we believe we have found one. Unity will take many thousands of their years, but without it self destruction is inevitable.

"That's where you come in, Saran. We can see no other way for our plan to work than by direct contact with them."

Saran's eyes widened. "You mean we're actually going down there? But … I thought they couldn't know of us … they wouldn't understand … they're too primitive …"

Sira held up her hand to silence him. "There will only be one of us Saran. You."

Female FaceSaran shifted slightly in his chair, uncertain where all this was going. Sira, noting his uneasiness, took his hand in hers. "Saran," she said gently. "These beings have such a short lifespan. Immortality could one day be within their grasp, but as you know, they can only discover it when their species works together as a whole. Right now they are heading in the opposite direction."

Male Face"All right Sira," Saran sighed, "what must I do?"

"Well," Sira explained, "certain events have already taken place planetside, so it's imperative that we send you down immediately."

"But!," Saran interrupted, "it's too soon. I'll need temporary physical reconstruction. These beings haven't developed wings yet. I'll be too obvious …"

"Don't worry," Sira continued, "we have a body on the planet. Only your mind will need toFemale Face transfer down, your body will remain on the ship.

"You will, of course, be given a 'Mind Overlay' Before you transfer. You'll retain all your own memories, plus the new instructions and you can communicate with us telepathically whenever you need help."

"Will it be a long assignment?"

Sira smiled, "No my friend, it should only take about thirty of their years … merely a blink of an eye to us."

The baby opened his eyes. He had amazing clarity of mind and vision for a newborn. Three men stood in the doorway. Through the slats in the roof, the baby could see the bright light that he knew was his spaceship.

MaryThe woman who was holding him was speaking to the man kneeling beside her. "Isn't he beautiful Joseph?," she said.

"Yes," replied the man, "we have a beautiful son Mary."
